Baby Hair Care
The most vital part of infant hair care is superior quality combs, brushes and hair products. Never compromise on the quality of these products, invest in some good quality hair care products. Babies don’ need shampooing everyday nor do they need a haircut at the salon. So, if need be trim your infants hair at home to keep it away from the eyes and ears. This will also avoid tangling. It becomes difficult to remove knots from the baby’s hair, so avoid tangling by trimming hair if needed.
It is not necessary to shampoo your baby’s hair everyday, twice in a week is good enough. Also use a shampoo that is formulated specially for infants because these shampoos are pH balanced which is very essential for the baby. But too much of pH in a shampoo can also lead to tangling of hair, so use reputed brands. Do not use comb excessively, also the strokes should be light.
Some babies may experience cradle cap in the first three months. This condition causes thick scaling of the scalp, usually the flakes are yellowish or reddish/pinkish in colour. Cradle cap doesn’t really need any treatment, not does it cause any itching to the infant.
It usually disappears on its own and heals by itself in a few months. What you can do is, lif the baby for at least half an hour twice in a day to reduce the friction with bed/pillow. If the scalp skin appears to be severely inflammed then you might want to consult a doctor.
Prescriptionn creams are available for treating cradle cap. At home, while shampooing, you can use a mild pH balanced shampoo and try to remove the scales with a soft bristle brush. But keep your strokes light, do not pull the hair or it will hurt.
