Aromatherapy Uses
Beauty and skin care are central to the practice of aromatherapy. Receiving a full body massage in the hands of a professional aromatherapist is certainly a treat, but not essential for maintaining a clear and healthy complexion. Most of the aromatic recipes are simple to make, and regular treatment can be carried out even at home. Aromatherpay uses Facial oils in the form of massage oils, except that the carrier oil as well as the essential oil can be adapted to the type of skin being treated.
Additional specific carrier oils include avocado, olive, wheatgerm, hazelnut, apricot kernel, peach kernel, borage seed, carrot oil and evening primrose, can be used in combination with the basic carrier oils which are sweet almond, grapeseed, jojoba and soya oil.
An easy recipe is 2 teaspoon of basic carrier oil with 1 teaspoon of sepcific carrier oil suited to skin type and 6-9 drops of essential oil. An aromatic facial cream can also be used for skin care by adding 8-10 drops of essential oil, according to skin type, to commercial unscented cream or by making up a basic cream for oneself, as under:
10 gm – Beeswax
40 gm – Almond oil
40 gm – Rosewater
10 drops of Rose essential oil.
Shred the beeswax and put it into a bowl together with almond oil. Place the bowl in a pan of water over gentle heat, and mix until the beeswax has melted. Warm the rosewater in the same fashion, and add wax and the oil mixture bit by bit, beating all the time. Finally stir in the essential oil and put it in the fridge to set. This cream can be used for face, hands or body. Other essential oils can be used instead of Rose oil according to the skin type.
