Are You Suffering From Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are considered to be a cosmetic problem but actually they are a medical problem. Varicose veins is nothing but the clotting of blood in the veins of your legs. Sometimes the veins are ruptured and need immediate medical assistance. Varicose veins are caused when the veins of our legs fail to push the blood upwards towards the heart.

When the blood rushes through our legs the veins do the job of pushing it back to the heart but over a period of time when the veins become weak due to various factors they cannot push the blood upwards thus leading to this condition.

There are various factors that cause varicose veins like; standing for long hours, weight and gravitational force. Though varicose veins can be treated but it is best to prevent it since treatment would regular usage of injections.

There are certain things that should be avoided to prevent varicose veins.

1) Do not stand for long hours, take short breaks in between to ensure smooth circulation of blood.

2) Keep a check on your weight, obesity also causes varicose veins. Include fibre rich food in your diet.

3) Don’t drive for very long, get out of the car after every hour and walk a bit.

4) Wear comfortable clothing that ensures good blood circulation.

5) Exercise daily and rest your legs on a pillow while sleeping. Varicose veins can be treated medicinally but the treatment often has temporary results. Injection therapies may cure the condition but the veins will re-appear in some time.

It is therefore advisable to prevent varicose veins by inculcating good habits. Women are at a greater risk than men due to hormonal changes during menopause and pregnancy. Nevertheless, varicose veins is not a fatal disease, so fear not. Take care of yourself and keep them at bay.
