All You Need To Know About Nails

Nails can make all the difference to your look. Nails are the reflection of our health, they reveal a lot about what is going on inside the body. Your nails can give out warning signs about your body. Like all other body parts even nails are susceptible to problems like trauma, infection, skin disease, splitting and ageing. While there is temporary solution available for splitting nails or thin delicate nails but the internal health should be given importance. While acrylic and gel nails can make even the most horrid hands look pretty, it is a temporary solution.

It is known that splitting of the nail plate is caused when hands are constantly wet, when one uses and removes nail polish very frequently and at times when artificial nails aren’t applied properly. Painful ingrown toe nails result from clipping nails too short and wearing ill-fitting shoes.

Nail problems also occur due to infections, injuries, inflammation, growths or even a deficiency. In order to handle nail problems a proper diagnosis is required. Most of the nail problems can be diagnosed by examination, but some cases may require blood work up, a nail scrapping test or nail biopsies.

Dry, brittle and weak nails need to be nourished through out the day with a hand and nails cream. Some oral medicines are also useful like iron, calcium and biotin supplements. For healthy nails avoid biting the nails and damaging the nail cuticle. Ensure that your diet is rich in iron, calcium and B complex. Have adequate quantities of milk and milk products.

Also eat green leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli, mint, cereals and grains. A diet rich in Vitamin A, E and biotin is believed to make nails stronger. Vitamin A is found in green , yellow and orange vegetables. Vitamin E includes nuts and green leafy vegetables. Biotin is a B vitamin found in eggs, almonds, soya beans and sweet potatoes.
