Age spots

What are age spots? Age spots are basically the freckles on the skin due to the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. People normally relate age spots to aging. There is no doubt as a person grows older with age, age spots are prone to occur on the skin. However, if these age spots occur on the skin in young age, then it is a cause of great concern. People can witness the age spots on the shoulders, on hands, and on face. These are the areas that are normally exposed to the sun, and hence the occurrence of the age spots.

People face burns and suntans on the skin due to the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. As a result greater number of pigments is deposited in the skin. This causes brown and flat skin lesions called as aging spots. People also call these spots as sun spots and liver spots.

Ways to deal with age spots

In case the age spots are neither too dark nor too large, then an individual must use skin bleach creams enriched with hydroquinone. The age spots may fade away with the use of such creams.

The time that is spent in sun should be reduced, so that the sun’s rays do not enlarge or darken the aging spots.

Sunscreens or sun blocks with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) should be used to guard the skin.

There are a number of peels available in the market these days that help in fading out the age spots. The peel helps in removing the skin’s top layer, thus getting rid of the aging spot. One would feel a burning sensation on the skin for some time. However, after around a few minutes the sensation is gone. In a week’s time, the skin becomes fine with the disappearance of the age spots.

In case the age spots do not fade away with the above discussed treatments, then doctor’s advice should be taken to deal with the problem.
