Acne

Acne is a headache at young age, it pops up when you have a big day ahead. Though make up can conceal it but it is good to take care of your skin and treat the eruption immediately, do not prick a pimple since it will spread. Acne is an inflammatory skin disease, characterised by pimples on the face, chest and back.

They occur when the pores of the skin get clogged with oil, sebum and dead skin cells. These clogged pores can get infected with bacteria and thus form pimples.

There are different types of acne:

1) Acne Vulgaris – This is the most common type of acne and includes blackheads, whiteheads, boils and pus boils.

2) Acne Rosacea – This type of acne appears like a red rash and generally occurs in the cheek and forehead area. The redness is often associated with bumps and blemishes.

3) Acne Conglobata – This type of acne is common in men and is characterised by large lesions and blackheads. This is a severe form of Acne Vulgaris.

4) Acne Fulminans – This is same as Acne Conglobata but only affects young men. Its symptoms are severe cyst and ulcering acne.

Home Care for acne:

1) Use a medicated soap, cleanser or lotion twice daily. Use a toner before retiring in the bed, use an astringent (rose based) toner after washing your face.

2) Do not use moisturizers overnight, apply a sunscreen when outdoors and use water based day and night cream.

3) Avoid using face scrubs since the particles can cause abrasion and leave marks, it can also aggravate the condition.

4) Don’t use too much of make up and clean the cosmetic brushes with soap water. Any make up that is 3 months old is no good, throw it away. Never sleep with your make up on, it will clog the pores even further.
