One of the severe skin related disorders is acne. Acne occurs in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and cysts on the skin of an individual. These days, there are many commercial and homemade treatments for treating acne. However, while treating acne, some people have certain misconceptions related to acne. These misconceptions may hinder the treatment process of acne. Therefore, it is very important for an individual to know about these misconceptions related to acne and cure acne in an effective manner. Let us here discuss about the four major misconceptions related to acne.

Four Misconceptions Related To Acne

Poor hygiene results in acne

Many people are of the view that poor hygiene results in the formation of acne spots on the skin. However, this is not the correct reason for the formation of acne. It is not the dirt and dust that result in acne; rather it is the excess production of oil on the skin that causes acne. The sebaceous glands sometimes produce more sebum, which results in the excess production of oil on the skin, thus causing acne spots. Thus excess production of oil is the main reason for the formation of acne. However, the fact cannot be denied that poor hygiene and environmental factors can aggravate the problem of acne on the skin.

Acne can be reduced by washing the face frequently

There is no doubt that washing the face helps in getting rid of the dirt and dust from the skin, thus curing acne. However, frequent washing may cause dryness and irritation of the skin, thus resulting in more breakouts of acne. So, face washing should be limited to only twice a day.

Make up can help to treat acne

All make up products do not help in treating acne. Also, if the make up products contain oil, the problem of acne may be worsened. However, if an individual uses non allergic make up products, enriched with salicylic acid, the problem of acne can be treated. Thus, use of oil based make up products should be avoided; rather concealers enriched with salicylic acid should be used.

Greasy foods and chocolates can lead to acne

There is no doubt that excess of every thing is bad. Therefore, excess of greasy foods and chocolates may be harmful for the health of an individual. However, till now, it has not been proved that oily foods and chocolates result in acne breakouts.
