Hair loss facts

It is natural for any human being to loose 50 to 100 hairs everyday. It is only when the rate of hair fall increases beyond this that a person becomes a victim of hair loss and baldness. There are two types of baldness namely male pattern baldness or permanent baldness and temporary baldness. The proper growth of hair depends upon many factors like diet and nutrition, physical health of the person, cleanliness of the scalp etc. Hair loss occur when the hair follicles do not get proper nutrients and vitamins and also due to infections of the scalp. Permanent hair loss is mainly due to hereditary reasons and there are no guaranteed proof that hair loss remedies would regain the lost hair growth, except for surgeries and transplantations.

There are many types of remedies that are available for the treatment of hair loss. Some of the most common hair loss remedies are discussed below:

Natural remedies

If a person is suffering from mild hair loss or hair thinning, then it can be corrected to some extent by using natural procedures like scalp massage, aroma therapy, jojoba oil treatment, margosa treatment as well as cleansing and detoxification. A regular massage of the scalp for 5 to 10 minutes can stimulate hair growth by improving the blood supply to the hair follicles. Nowadays, electric massagers with scalp massaging attachments are available. Aroma therapy includes massaging a mix of essential oils on to the scalp of the affected person in order to stimulate the hair follicles that will lead to hair growth. Toxins present in the body adversely affect the growth of the hair and result in loss of hair. Cleansing and detoxifying the body through oral medications or by enema will help in the proper growth of hair to some extent.

Diet and Nutrients

Washing, cleaning and conditioning of the hair is not sufficient to keep the hair healthy and to prevent hair loss. Hair needs essential vitamins and nutrients for the luxurious growth and proper diet that is rich in proteins, water as well as fresh fruits and vegetables is also very essential in keeping the hair healthy and shiny. Consuming more protein helps thin hair to become thicker and incorporating zinc and vitamin C in the diet will prevent dullness and split ends of hair. Deficiency of vitamin B7 is a major cause of hair loss in many people. So, it is necessary to supplement one’s diet with biotin or vitamin B7 to prevent excessive hair loss. Iron and phenylalanine are other ingredients necessary for preventing hair loss.

Medications

Although, hair care market is flooded with hundreds of medications that claim to be the best hair loss remedies, only a few drugs like Propecia and Rogaine are approved by the FDA for treating hair loss. Propecia and Rogaine are found to be very effective in treating hair loss by preventing the formation of dihydrotestosterone or DHT that is the main reason for the hair loss seen in many people and more so in males. These medications can promote hair growth within three to four months of usage, but Rogaine and Propecia cannot do much in restoring the hair growth in the frontal regions of the scalp.

Hair transplants and Laser treatments

Hair transplant is a surgical procedure that is gaining popularity all over the world in treating baldness and hair loss. Hair transplants are a boon to people suffering from permanent baldness and are considered to be the long lasting and most effective of the various hair loss remedies. In this medical procedure, the doctor or the dermatologist will implant small bits of scalp along with hairs to the areas of the head that is affected by baldness or hair loss. A hair transplant surgery done by an expert surgeon will result in the patient gaining natural looking hair that will not be easily identified even by the professional hair dressers. Laser treatment restores hair growth in a person by activating the hair follicles with the help of light rays and by improving the blood circulation to the hair follicles that results in better growth of the hair.
