Causes Of Hair Loss

Causes Of Hair Loss

The normal life span of hair is from two to six years. The hair grows about a half inch each month when it is in its growth stage. Ten percent of the hair on your head has stopped growing at any point of time. The rest of the hair is in constant movement. The ten percent hair that is not growing will fall out within a few months time and new hair will replace it. Every day, hair will be found falling out and landing on some time you are standing around. Those who experience hair loss are going to have more hair fall out than is normal and no replacement hair comes in afterwards. The causes of hair loss do not discriminate and are found in men, children, and women of all ages. There is no telling who will be the next victim of hair loss and why they experience it.

The Causes Of Hair Loss

There is more than one reason for loosing your hair. It could be that you have had a major surgery or illness in the pas few months. This may cause you to loose excessive amounts of hair. It does not necessarily come from the sickness but can be caused from the anxiety of being sick. Some individuals may have hair loss from a hormone imbalance in their body. The hormones estrogen or androgen being treated and regulated once again will make the hair grow back as it should. It could very well be that the thyroid is acting up and not working as it should. The best way to treat this loss of hair is to treat the problem with the thyroid. Medicine can affect the hair follicles also. Blood Thinners are one of the major causes of hair loss as are gout medication, chemotherapy medicines, excess vitamin A, antidepressants, and birth control.

Hair Loss In Women

Due to pregnancy, the hair can be lost. This usually occurs within the three months after the baby is born. The hormone levels tend to be out of whack and will need to regulate for the symptoms to stop. The hormone levels get high during and right after pregnancy and will reduce within a short time afterwards. The normal growth returns and the hair go back to the way it was before the pregnancy. Certain hair procedures for women can inflame the follicle and the hair falls out. Such procedures are perms and hot oil treatments. Take care and treat your scalp gently while you are waiting for things to return to normal. Try using a sensitive skin shampoo for daily shampooing. You might want to take it easy on the washing and only shampoo every other day to give your scalp a rest. If at all possible, do not style your hair. Instead, let it rest for as much as you can. The more you pull on it, the more likely the hair is to come out.

Other Reasons

The final causes of loss of hair in an individual can be from certain infections and particular types of scalp fungus. This is especially common in younger children. Most of the time, the problem will go away with regular use of an anti-fungal shampoo or cream. If you notice your hair falling out with no reason, it is time to see your doctor. It could be a sign that you have diabetes or lupus require treatment and causes of hair loss. You may need to see a specialist trained in dealing with specific scalp and hair issues. Most of the treatment options available are simple to use and work quiet well for many issues. The most important thing to remember is to take care of your hair and treat it kindly. Using harsh chemicals and heat will not do the hair shaft any good. Take good care of your hair and it will serve you for many years with no problems.
