How to Shampoo your Hair

How to Shampoo your Hair?

In today’s world, it is an absolute necessity to wash our hair almost regularly. The increased pollution, dust particles in the air as well as the numerous beauty products that we use, forms a thin surface coating on the hair. This film has to be removed so that the hair stays fresh, clean and bouncy. It may sound simple, but there are many of us who wouldn’t know how to shampoo your hair properly. This leads to rapid hair fall, dry flakes and a whole lot of other problems. The scalp has to be treated very gently and a shampoo, preferably a mild one, should be used to remove the grime and the dust.  In this article we tell you how to shampoo your hair.

Shampoos in the market

There are a number of shampoos available in the market, each having its own special features and designed for a particular type of hair. You have to experiment initially to find the one that suits you the best. A proper shampoo should thoroughly cleanse your hair, removing all the dirt without removing all the moisture from the scalp or even causing itching or irritation. It might also be a good idea to keep changing your shampoo occasionally. The scalp gets used to that particular type of shampoo and it might not work as effectively as it used to do before.

Using the shampoo

How to shampoo your hair depends heavily on the shampoo used. The shampoo should be used in very small quantities. Shampoo is a chemical and it is better to subject our hair to less amount of it. So don’t be inspired by the various advertisements and try achieving a foam covered head. The first wash will not produce any foam at all since it is being used to get rid of all the grime. The second wash yields a bit of lather since all the dirt has already been removed. The next few steps enumerate in detail as to how you should shampoo your hair properly.

To lose less amount of hair, it is better to thoroughly brush your hair before going in for a shower. Remove all the tangles. Next wet your scalp thoroughly with warm water. Shampoo is more effective on completely wet hair. It is important to pay attention to the fact that the scalp should not be subjected to extremes of temperature. Water should neither be very cold nor very hot. It should be lukewarm.

Pour a very small amount of shampoo, a teaspoonful on your palm. Diluting the shampoo a bit is a good idea since most shampoos are concentrated formulae. The shampoo should be massaged gently with fingertips into the hair roots. Shampoo penetrates deeply and the cleansing action is proper. Gentle action will prevent uprooting of hair. The massaging also increases the circulation of blood within the scalp, giving rise to a soothing effect.

The shampoo should then be uniformly spread over the entire scalp, specially the portion behind the ears, the hairline and the nape of the neck. In case you have long hair, it is advisable to bend down and wash the hair from the neck-side. The main thing is that you should always start with the scalp and then proceed to the hair ends because the hair cuticle lies in this direction.

Massage for a few minutes to allow the shampoo to take its time to remove all the grease. Rinse your hair properly so that all the shampoo is washed away. Check again if there is any shampoo left unwashed. It will give rise to itchy, dry patches and lead to more hair fall. If all the dirt has not been removed, shampoo again.

Hair is at its weakest when wet. So don’t rub it. Wrap it around with a towel so that all the water is absorbed. Hair is no longer wet but damp. Comb the damp hair slowly with a comb which is wide-toothed and then let the hair dry naturally.

Hope this article helped you in understanding how to shampoo your hair.
